There are so many things I enjoy doing, that relax me and take away the daily pressures for a few hours.

But I think my favourite is to read.

As in child we would go on long car journeys and I’d have a pile of books next to me on the seat of our yellow cortina.

My sister who has never been a reader would be complaining “Are we nearly there yet” but me I would be transported into another time eagerly devouring each page.

I used to love the library. We had one at the end of our road. I’d go there to study and get books weekly. I’d always get the maximum allowed which I think is 6, and set myself a challenge to read all.

Some would wrinkle their noses at the smell in the library it smelt musty and old but I loved it.

It smelt of history and knowledge to me. I’d go in there wandering round, reading back covers to see whose world I wanted to discover.

I’ve never read particularly high brow books for fun. Mainly fiction, stories. I enjoy historical novels and I’ve read a few biographies but generally fiction is my main choice.

I’ve always given books as presents. Some might not be as appreciative but I’ve always loved the feeling of books especially when they are new. Turning the pages and discovering new things.

I almost always carry a book in my bag. Now many if caught unexpectedly waiting, or queuing will aimlessly scroll through their phone. Me of course I do that sometimes but if I have a book with me that is my preference.

A dream of mine is to write my own book. I have a few ideas of stories and who knows one day I might stop procrastinating and actually write one but that for me would be the ultimate.

As to create something that the reader loosing themselves in, that when they come to the last page they flick back through to see bits they’ve missed.

That’s a wonderful gift.
