Your life without a computer: what does it look like?
Approaching my 5th decade I do remember life very well without a computer.
During my study’s I spent hours in the library, looking up references, cramming information my fingers indented from holding the pen.The libraries were packed and were a respectful place a home of knowledge.
Yes it was harder to get information. We used to have a man come to the door selling Encyclopaedias. Almost every house had this set of huge books which were the google of the day.
You couldn’t ask Alexa or Google to look up the weather in India today you had to physically find out.
Everything took more time, everything was more laborious.
I feel more labour intensive you had to be present and to do the keg work.
Today it’s all so easy. Information can be found in seconds yet with all that time this has freed up does it actually give us more time?
In general no, as although computers are time savers the nature of the information they hold means we become addicted.
Start looking for one thing and go down a rabbit hole for something else.
They are our liberator but also our prisons.
There is no doubt that computers make life easier but I often wonder at what cost?
